Intensive Seminar on Overseeing Contracts
with Education Service Providers

NACSA is pleased to invite all charter school authorizers to a full-day Intensive Seminar devoted to special issues in overseeing charter school contracts with education service providers (ESPs). This seminar will enable authorizers to explore and discuss in depth, in a peer environment, a range of opportunities, challenges and effective authorizer practices in approving and overseeing charter school contractual relationships with school management or school design organizations.


This seminar will offer:

--An intensive full-day format, focused on sharing practical experience and strategies through guided discussions, practice-focused presentations, and analysis of sample documents

--Limited enrollment to promote a collegial, inclusive learning environment

--Valuable take-away resources from NACSA and authorizers with strong experience in overseeing charter school-ESP contracts

The seminar will address topics such as:

--Roles, responsibilities, strategies and practices for authorizers in overseeing charter school-ESP contracts

--Roles and responsibilities of charter school boards and ESPs, respectively

--Evaluating school-ESP partnerships at the charter application stage and in operation

--Strengthening charter school governing boards and board oversight

--Overseeing contract terminations

--Evaluating charter school-ESP contractual provisions relating to governance; compensation, financial and facilities arrangements; intellectual and physical property;contract duration, renewal and termination; performance oversight of the service provider; and contingency planning in the event of termination


The deadline for registration is Monday, May 23. Space is limited, so register soon to secure a spot. Registration rates for this Intensive Seminar are:

Members -- $150
Non-members -- $225

Submit your fully paid seminar registration to NACSA by Wednesday, May 11 to be entered in a drawing for one night FREE lodging at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City during the seminar.

The seminar will take place at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, VA (five minutes from Reagan National Airport and convenient to downtown Washington, DC).

Participants are responsible for booking their own hotel reservations. Make your reservation by Monday, May 23 in order to secure NACSA's group discount rate of $166/night for June 15. This rate will also be available for two nights before and after June 15. Be sure to identify yourself as a participant in the NACSA Seminar to obtain the group rate.

Travel Information
Although Washington, DC is served by three airports, we highly recommend using Reagan National Airport because of its proximity to the Hyatt Regency Crystal City. The hotel offers free shuttle service to and from Reagan National, as well as to and from the Crystal City Metro station (offering quick access to downtown Washington, DC). In addition, cab fares to and from Reagan National are inexpensive.

Cancellation Policy
In the event of cancellation, NACSA will refund the registration fee, less a $25 processing charge, if the cancellation is received in writing before Monday, May 23. No refunds will be made after this date. Participants are responsible for cancellation or change fees charged by the hotel or air carriers.
