NACSA'S INTENSIVE SEMINARS for Charter School Authorizers

NACSA is developing two full-day Intensive Seminars for Charter School Authorizers. The seminars are scheduled for Thursday, April 10 and Friday, April 11, 2003 in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia. There will be substantial registration discounts available for NACSA Members.

One seminar will address The Charter Application Process: Generating and Evaluating Applications from Invitation to Approval . It will have a practical nuts & bolts focus as well as a strategic component addressing ways that authorizers can be more proactive in encouraging development of quality charter schools.

The second seminar will focus on the authorizer's crucial responsibilities from Performance Contracting through Renewal Decisionmaking: Defining and Implementing the Terms of Accountability . This seminar will emphasize early planning for renewal decisionmaking as a focal point to drive all aspects of a well-designed charter oversight system.

Each seminar will incorporate substantive issues important in all stages of authorizing, including

> Accountability planning and implementation under the No Child Left Behind Act
> Value-added assessment in school accountability
> Overseeing charter school governance
> Special education in charter schools
