DIRECTOR OF FISCAL AND REGULATORY ACCOUNTABILITY

The Charter Schools Institute, created by the State University of New York Trustees to implement their obligations under New York’s Charter Schools Act, seeks a dynamic and highly motivated individual for the position of Director of Fiscal and Regulatory Accountability.

The Director of Fiscal and Regulatory Accountability is responsible for overseeing the fiscal and regulatory affairs of charter schools authorized by the State University of New York. Duties include reviewing and analyzing applications for proposed new charter schools in the areas of financial plan, governance structure and facility plan as well as the review and monitoring of charter schools’ financial reports and record of regulatory compliance. The Director of Fiscal and Regulatory Accountability is responsible for maintaining the Institute’s financial control and regulatory compliance files for each charter school; providing technical assistance to charter schools with regard to financial policies, procedures and internal controls; and providing leadership and coordination to various technical personnel engaged in specific project activities as appropriate. Job based in Albany, NY. Travel required as necessary to perform school financial site visits/forensic audits.

Education and Experience:

Minimum of B.A./B.S. with master’s degree preferred. At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, financial compliance and monitoring, internal controls and auditing. Strong computer skills and experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and financial accounting packages.

The ideal candidate would possess policy level experience and assist the Institute in suggesting, designing and implementing regulatory and fiscal policies that strengthen both the oversight of the Institute as well as the regulatory and fiscal performance of individual charter schools.

Experience in a primary or secondary educational environment preferred. Experience in forensic auditing preferred, especially in public-sector environment. Experience in a regulatory setting also preferred.

Salary: Competitive salary ($65,000+) and excellent benefits package.
