Charter Schools Association of Indiana (CSAI)

Position Title: Executive Director
Supervisor Title: Board of Directors

Summary of Position:

 Support existing charter schools through various initiatives, including serving as a clearinghouse of information, supporting research projects, and pursuing funding opportunities.
 Build a grassroots support network for charter schools.
 Work with individuals and groups seeking to open charter schools.
 Serve as a voice for the charter school movement in Indiana before the Indiana General Assembly as well as to the media, community groups and other constituencies.

Education/Experience:

 Bachelors degree in business, political science, education policy, or a related field.
 At least 3 years of experience in a related field or government affairs/public administration.
 Familiarity with legislative and regulatory processes.

Skills:

 Persuasive communication skills.
 Proficient in public speaking, writing, and relationship building.

Traits:

 Strong team player, perseverant, patient, and persistent.
 Able to quickly adapt to uncertain or changing situations.
 Comfortable with standard office software.

Essential Functions of the Job:

 Build political support for charter schools at the state, county, and city level.
 Generate media exposure for schools and authorizers.
 Identify and disseminate grant opportunities for schools and authorizers.
 Provide information about charter schools to the general public.
 Maintain productive relationships with charter schools, charter school authorizers, legislators, legislative staff, regulators, media, trade associations, and academia.
 Stay highly informed about current issues that affect charter schools. Conduct research, attend conferences, read, visit with professionals, and meet with other state organizations.
 Serve as liaison to CSAI committees and board of directors in order to develop a clear and sound platform for CSAI.
 Respond to CSAI members’ requests for legislative support or information in a timely and professional manner.
 Unify the charter school operators to maximize their potential and capture efficiencies.

Organizational description:

 CSAI includes approved representatives from charter schools, authorizers from Ball State University and the Indianapolis Mayor’s Office, and members of charter school support groups. The Association represents the rapidly growing charter school movement on regulatory, legal and legislative issues before the Indiana General Assembly. The Association also commissions research on charter school performance.
 CSAI is based in downtown Indianapolis.
